چکیده
Abstract We present a study of the Trapezium cluster in Orion. analyze flux-calibrated Very Large Telescope/Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer spectra 361 stars to simultaneously measure spectral types, reddening, and optical veiling due accretion. find that extinction law from Cardelli et al. with total-to-selective value R V = 5.5 is more suitable for this cluster. For 68% sample new types are consistent literature within two subclasses but, as expected, we derive systematically later than by one sources significant accretion levels. Here an improved Hertzsprung–Russell (H-R) diagram cluster, which contamination on stellar luminosities has been properly removed. A comparison locations H-R non-magnetic magnetic pre-main-sequence evolutionary tracks indicates age 1–2 Myr. The can better explain low-mass stars. In diagram, exhibits large luminosity spread ( σ (Log L ⋆ / ⊙ ) ∼ 0.3). By collecting 14 clusters/groups different ages, tends be constant 0.2–0.25) after 2 Myr, suggests not main cause spread. There ∼0.1 dex larger spreads younger clusters, e.g., older explained starspots, history, circumstellar disk orientations.

The Circumstellar Disk Mass Distribution in the Orion Trapezium Cluster
We present the results of a submillimeter interferometric survey of circumstellar disks in the Trapezium Cluster of Orion. We observed the 880μm continuum emission from 55 disks using the Submillimeter Array, and detected 28 disks above 3σ significance with fluxes between 6-70 mJy and rms noise between 0.7–5.3 mJy. Dust masses and upper limits are derived from the submillimeter excess above fre...
متن کاملLow - Mass Runaway Stars from the Orion Trapezium Cluster
In the course of a search for common proper motion binaries in the Jones & Walker (JW) catalogue of proper motions in the Orion Nebula Cluster, we came across several faint stars with proper motions larger than one arcsecond per century and probabilities of membership P larger than 0.90. Such stars are interesting because they could be low-mass runaway stars recently accelerated by n-body inter...
متن کاملMassive Protoplanetary Disks in Orion Beyond the Trapezium Cluster
We present Submillimeter Array observations of the 880μm continuum emission from three circumstellar disks around young stars in Orion that lie several arcminutes (& 1-pc) north of the Trapezium cluster. Two of the three disks are in the binary system 253-1536. Silhouette disks 216-0939 and 253-1536a are found to be more massive than any previously observed Orion disks, with dust masses derived...
متن کاملAn Expanding Trapezium Cluster?
Simulations with Aarseth's (1994) NBODY5 code are presented of an initially dense binary-rich cluster. It is assumed that the star formation efficiency is 50 per cent with instantaneous mass loss. The model central density and velocity dispersion agree with the observational constraints if expansion is only about 6 × 10 4 yr old. Additionally, the observed binary proportion constrains the primo...
متن کاملX-ray Properties of Low-mass Pre-main Sequence Stars in the Orion Trapezium Cluster
The Chandra HETG Orion Legacy Project (HOLP) is the first comprehensive set of observations of a very young massive stellar cluster that provides high-resolution X-ray spectra of very young stars over a wide mass range (0.7–2.3 M). In this paper, we focus on the six brightest X-ray sources with T Tauri stellar counterparts that are well-characterized at optical and infrared wavelengths. All st...
